Current Events
- If you or people in your area want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
- As you're driving on the river road by Stephens' park, you'll notice construction on the south side of the road. That's the new central water system treatment facility in progress. Update: This should be online in the next 2 weeks!
- Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.
Item H (Oppidan Concept)
This property has 3 industrial developments around it and the Dayton Trailer court on the 4th side. Last year the owner of the property came to the city and had it rezoned from industrial to Mobile Home because he was looking at extending the trailer court into it. He determined it wouldn’t financially work so he sold it. The new owner wants to put in a warehouse consistent with the original zoning. While the developer has adjusted his concept plan to move the warehouse as far from the residential as possible, there is still concern that it will be a source of noise during the day. This will not be a transfer style warehouse and it’s expected that it will only run daytime hours. There was some discussion about only allowing trailer homes there but that would result in a residential area with 3 sides industrial, making it even harder to get homes in there. We did agree to removal of a row of truck parking between the building and the residential area. The developer was told they could move forward with it (which I agreed to) but this is another situation where there was no good answer.
Item I (Personnel Policy Update)
This was to approve minor changes to the personnel policy. It was approved 5-0.
Item J (Posting for a Planner and Part-Time HR Position.)
This is to replace the planner we just lost (he took a job in another city as the administrator). We currently rely on an outside firm to do our HR work and this would mostly replace that. It was approved 5-0.
Item L (Strategic Plan)
Over the past few months, we’ve been working on our long-term strategic plan, and this was to finalize it. For those curious, see the agenda. It was approved 5-0.
Item M (AT&T Lease Renewal)
This was to approve a renewal of the lease AT&T has at the water tower. The current lease is good until 2038, and this was a reduction in the overall cash flow, so it was not approved.
Item N (Property Negotiation - Closed)
This was to discuss terms for the purchase of the property we’ve been looking at for a road access on the south side of the Dayton Parkway south of the freeway.
Item O (City Administrator Performance Review - Closed)
This was a yearly review and pay discussion.
