Current Events
- If you or people in your area want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
- As you're driving on the river road by Stephens' park, you'll notice construction on the south side of the road. That's the new central water system treatment facility in progress.
- Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.
Item M (Recommendation for Termination of Employment of Fire Department Lt. Travis Henderson)
Dealing with personnel issues is very difficult when it comes to the open meeting laws. Typically, employee reviews can be closed but for some odd reason when the topic is termination it can’t be. And digging in to find out all of the details on why our administrator was asking he be fired is hard to do in an open meeting because there are usually other employees involved which can lead into data privacy laws.
I’ve known Travis for a few years and while we occasionally disagreed while he was on the council, I know he won’t skip a beat to help someone in need. I believe he was an asset to our Fire Department and city in general. He was also someone that spoke out when he seen problems within our fire department (and it has plenty).
I had communicated back to our administrator that I thought this was unwarranted and simply a bad idea but it was requested regardless.
I also received many emails from other fire fighters that completely supported Travis.
Unfortunately, this entire process took its toll and he submitted his resignation before the meeting. The item was changed to acceptance of his resignation and it was approved 4-0 with 1 abstaining.
Item N (Approval to Exceed Noise Past 10 pm)
This was to allow a wedding being held at 17501 Dayton River Road to continue music until 11PM. It was approved 5-0.
Item O (Final Design for the 113th Ave Trunk)
This item was to approve the final design of the sewer system in the Dayton Industrial Park (113th) so properties north of there can be developed. It passed 5-0.
Item P (Playground Equipment Supplier Selection)
A few months back a request was made to open up bidding on the “area 21 – Brayburn Trails” park improvements. The original bid process was awarded, but an additional bidder was allowed to look at the project. While that additional bidder came in lower, it also couldn’t meet the dates and there were other issues of concern so the award was left as is 5-0.
Item Q (Quarterly Report)
This was an overview of the city’s last quarter’s financial picture and as usual, there weren’t any surprises.
