Current Events
- Elections... If you or people in your area or HOA want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
- The new water treatment facility is UP AND RUNNING! If you're on the north central water system you should no longer see discolored, sulfur smelling water. Though... for those of you not using a water softener, you'll still want to look into getting one.
- Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.
Item 8A (Roadway Easement)
As part of the Forgent development agreement on 117th and Dayton Parkway, the roadway easement for the Dayton Parkway portion of their property needed to be vacated (removed). This item did that. It passed 5-0.
Item 9B (Livable Communities Act Grant)
The Metropolitan Council has various grants to help replan small areas. To get those grants, we have to opt into their program. While I have some reservations about anything the Met Council does, what I heard was we can opt out at any time. This was to opt into that program. It passed 5-0.
Item 9C (Comprehensive Plan Amendment)
Sundance Greens 12th Addition (recently approved) changed somewhat from the original approval back in 2018. The zoning map was changed which is supposed to match the Comprehensive Plan. Normally both changes are approved at the same time, but the plan amendment wasn’t performed. In addition, it was discovered that the park was also inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan. This amendment corrects all of that. It passed 5-0.
Item 9D (Sundance Greens Development Agreement)
A development agreement is basically a contract with the developer as to how a development is to proceed. This agreement was presented to the council once before but it had to have some corrections regarding Park Dedication fees. One of the changes we’re going to have the attorney look at is to put language into it which will penalize the developer for ordinance infractions occurring during development. Specifically, our concern was the sign ordinance which are routinely ignored. It passed 5-0
Item 9E (Vineyard Meadow Development Agreement)
The only issues with this agreement had to do with chunks of land in the development that the city wanted. Not only did staff want the land without paying for it, but the location of one of them resulted in one less lot the developer could sell. Additionally, the developer wanted to make sure the city didn’t use one of the chunks for a water tower. Engineering told us the land wasn’t nearly big enough for that, so that request was easy to deal with. A motion was made to approve the agreement and pay for the land. It passed 5-0.
Item 9F (EDA appointments)
When Shawn was appointed to council at the last meeting, and since he was currently on the EDA, that meant we now had 3 council members on the EDA which isn’t allowed. This vote was to remote Shawn from the EDA. It passed 5-0.
