Current Events

  • If you or people in your area want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
  • As you're driving on the river road by Stephens' park, you'll notice construction on the south side of the road. That's the new central water system treatment facility in progress. It is scheduled to come online sometime late summer!
  • Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.

Item (G) Sheriff Witt Hennepin County

Sheriff Witt came by and gave us a presentation on what her goals and focusses are going to be. If you're interested click on the meeting above and go that that part of the meeting.

Item H (Care Resources Presentation)

This was rescheduled to another date.

Item I (Discussion with the EDA regarding tax forfeit properties)

This was just to see if the council wanted to meet with the EDA to create a plan going forward regarding a few tax forfeit properties around town. The decision was to set up a work session with the EDA.

Item J (North Diamond Lake Road Trail)

This was to see if the council wanted to go forward with plans and specifications for a trail to connect River Hills development with Vinewood. This doesn't commit the city to doing the project in the short term, but the work done will be applicable to the project whether it happens in the next year or when the River Road roundabout goes in. The cost is $61,000 and it was approved 5-0. That money will come out of the trail fund.

Item K (IUP for Home Extended Business)

We approve these all the time but this one seemed to get a lot of attention and I believe it was due to 2 dump trucks going in and out twice a day. It's a 10 acre agricultural lot. I also suspect there was some other motives involved, but when neighbors don't get a long, nothing goes well. After a long discussion there were some adjustments made to the conditions in the IUP and it was passed 3-1. I recently found out I was related to the applicant so I abstained from voting.

Item L (Code Amendment Regarding Garbage and Refuse)

This was simply to clean up an inconsistency regarding where garbage cans are stored with respect to the buildings they're owned by. The requirement that they be stored in the back of the building was removed. It also adds a requirement that dumpsters be covered when they're not in use. This is to keep garbage from being blown out of them.

As always contact me with questions or concerns.
