Current Events

  • If you or people in your area want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
  • As you're driving on the river road by Stephens' park, you'll notice construction on the south side of the road. That's the new central water system treatment facility in progress. It is scheduled to come online sometime late summer!
  • Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.

Item (G) Change Orders and Contracts

With the new council members in place, staff thought it would be a good idea to go over how contract bidding and the inevitable (and scorned) change orders work. Bids are generally either priced by the total job or by the piece part. Change orders are the result of something discovered that wasn't anticipated. or a change in what is wanted after a contract is agreed upon. If you're curious I would suggest watching the presentation.

Item H (Stormwater Project Funding)

The Elm Creek Watershed Management Organization secured funding for various projects from their member cities and there were 3 projects submitted from Dayton:

  1. Feasibility Study: Treating runoff from the mobile home park, prior to discharge into French Lake.
  2. Construction Project: Install (two) devices to treat runoff from the neighborhood immediately north of Diamond Lake, at current discharge points to the lake.
  3. Feasibility Study: Analyze data collected regarding Grass Lake, in attempt to better understand and manage the lake such to improve the quality of Diamond Lake (Grass Lake is immediately up stream of Diamond Lake – over half of the water entering Diamond Lake comes from Grass Lake).

These were approved 5-0.

Feel free to contact me with any opinions or questions about what's going on in our city.
