Current Events
- If you or people in your area want to meet and discuss current/future topics related to the city, reach out to me to set up a time to visit. (email, phone call, or in person)
- The new water treatment facility is UP AND RUNNING! If you're on the north central water system you should no longer see discolored, sulfur smelling water. Though... for those of you not using a water softener, you'll still want to look into getting one.
- Many of you are familiar with the phrase "rural look and feel" or "rural character." Dayton residents have said this is important to them and I agree. It's even in our mission statement. We've had a couple work sessions on the topic and I believe it'll result in a list of ideas we will be prioritizing for the future. If you have ideas, please let me know.
Work Session (Fire department letter)
A month or so back the city of Dayton received a joint letter from Rogers and Maple Grove indicating they were not happy with our fire department performance when it came to house fires. In the past 10 fires in Dayton, our fire department has been the first one to the scene only twice. Their concern was that their residents are unfairly impacted by this. And I agree. I believe there are a few reasons for this but it's messy. One of the steps we've already taken is to have 2 more fire fighters at station 2 during times fires are more prevalent. That is scheduled to happen in June.
Item I (Launch Park Passport Program)
This is a program our Parks commission put together to get residents out to the parts. And I believe it's a pretty good one.
The City will provide a list of 8–10 parks to visit throughout Dayton as part of a “Park Passport” experience. At each location, participants will find a Park Passport sign featuring a QR code. Scanning the code will direct them to a Microsoft Forms page where they can check in, answer quick questions, and complete a fun, optional park specific challenge. It was approved 5-0.
Item J (Quarterly Report)
This is done quarterly to give the council an idea of how the fund balances are doing. As expected, things are good with the funds.
Item K (Water Shed Appointment)
Our previous water shed appointment moved out of the city and so we'll be opening up the position. If you feel you'd be interested, let me or city staff know. HERE is the web site.
Item M (Legacy Woods Development DA)
This was to go over the developer's agreement for this development. This is Dayton's first A3 zoning development. It'll provide 10 un-sewered lots ranging from 3 to 23 acres. This took years of pushing hard by a few of us and hopefully we'll have a lot more in the future. It passed 5-0.
Item N (River Hills Force Main)
A force main is a section of sewer pipe that carries sewage uphill... so it's under pressure due to a pump. During construction of the River Hills development, a temporary force main was installed until a permanent one could be. That permanent one was installed and now the temporary one needs to be removed. This was to approve a bid to do that. It passed 5-0.
